RETAINED LOGIC VERSUS PROGRESS OVERRIDE OPTIONS IN PRIMAVERA P6 REL. 15.2
Retained Logic versus Progress Override
The foremost priority during the development of project plans in Primavera P6 is the estimation of the network logic or sequence in which the processes occur. Then we come to Critical Path Method Schedule, which requires a clear representation of network logic. The critical path method schedule is derived from the network logic as well as activity durations.
Graphical Representation
Retained Logic implies that a sequence cannot be terminated until and unless the predecessor has been terminated. The duration of activity occurring ‘out of sequence’ is scheduled for execution once the predecessor finishes. Retained logic doesn’t disrupt the network logic.
Scheduling with Progress Override allows Primavera P6 to neglect the relationship between activities. It also schedules the remaining work of activities occurring ‘out of sequence’ from the data date. The second activity below is permitted to start before the predecessor finishes.
How to Modify Primavera P6’s Schedule Calculation Setting
In Primavera P6, you can find the ‘Schedule Options’ dialog box which allows users to choose from Progress Override, Actual Dates and Retained Logic for scheduling progressed activities. You can take a look at the demonstration of Retained Logic as well as Progress Override options in the screen shot below.
