PMP CERTIFICATION EXAM CHANGE: WHAT TO EXPECT?

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is a job that is ever evolving. Due to it constantly changing, the PMP Certification exam also has to adjust and develop. The updated exam will take place on March 26, 2018. If you are taking it on/or March of the upcoming year you will have to study from the 6th edition PMBOK® Guide. But what are the major changes and how can you best prepare for the changes of the PMP exam?

Role Of Project Manager: There is a new chapter of the book that gives guidance to project managers on how to effectively direct their projects.

Knowledge Areas: There is a more extensive look into project integration management focusing on a new process termed manage project knowledge. Manage project knowledge is creating a strategy where what is learned is spread through all facets of the organization.

Project Scope Management: Little has changed in this section, though there is more emphasis on the partnership between business analysis and the project manager.

Project Quality Management: Perform quality assurance has changed to manage quality. This transition was done because most businesses and organizations lack quality assurance in the project but rather it is part of the operations in another department.

Change In Names: There are two sections in the book that are renamed. Project time management is now Schedule Management, where the author of this books argues that one cannot manage time. Project Human Resource Management is now named Project Resource Management, arguing that there is other resources than just that of humans.

Communications: There has been stress to define communications in the context of artifacts rather than dialogue.

Project Risk Management: Risk is being more generalized in the 6th addition compared to prior additions. Furthermore, the authors added a new risk response approach called Escalate.
Project Procurement Management: This section of the book got a facelift and has more of a global approach where before it was more regional focusing on North America.
