Choosing the right Primavera training course can be difficult so to simplify your decision making, we’ve created the ultimate guide to choosing the right one. Select the right course and unlock new career opportunities, streamline workflows, and gain a competitive edge. Choose wrong and you could be left with more questions than you started with.

In-Person vs. Online Primavera P6 Learning

The first decision to make is whether you’d like to attend an in-person or online course. In person courses have a lot of benefits if you learn best in a classroom setting, want to take the opportunity to network with other P6 students, or need fewer distractions allowing you to really immerse yourself in the training day. Virtual classes avoid travel costs, allow you to take the course from the comfort of your home (or office), and still engage students using online forums like video, chat, and virtual exercises.

Choosing the Right Online Format for Primavera P6 Training

If you decide online is the route for you, you will want to decide between a self-paced course or a virtual live instructor led course. Self-paced courses offer the most flexible way to learn P6 but do not always offer a comprehensive understanding of planning and managing a project in P6. They also require you to have your own P6 environment with the proper user privileges to perform the necessary tasks to follow along.

Evaluating Virtual Instructor-Led P6 Training

If you are going to go the online route, virtual, instructor-led training courses are the way to go, though there are still some follow-up considerations when choosing the right virtual class. Some things to consider: look for a course that provides access to P6 and doesn’t rely on your own P6 environment to follow along, take the course at home rather than the office to minimize distractions, and find out if the course offers follow-up support or refresher courses.

Selecting Your Skill Level: Basic vs. Advanced

Whether you decide to go virtual or in-person, you should also consider the level of experience the course requires. Basic or fundamental P6 courses typically focus on creating a project plan in P6 with a few lessons on project execution: recording actuals, variance analysis, producing reports, importing and exporting project data. Advanced P6 courses have less focus on getting the project into P6 and more on what to do with the project once it is there. If you feel comfortable creating the project, its WBS, activities and sequencing work or if you’ve taken a Basic P6 course already, it may be better to looking into Advanced training outlines that could better hone your existing P6 skills.
